newsletterThe April Newsletter is available! Check it out for the Tip of the Month, Workout of the Month Fartlek Intervals and the Recipe of the Month is a delicious Banana Beet Passion Smoothie

Introduction

I am VERY excited to announce that if all goes according to plan, as of May 9th I will own a live / work training studio. (It is not a 100% done deal so please everyone, keep your fingers and toes crossed for me). I hope to start seeing clients in my new space in early to mid-June.

May will be a busy month – I have to paint, construct a wall and buy equipment – so I am very grateful that the sun is out! Sunshine always puts extra pep in my step, it will give me the energy to get everything done! In honour of the sunshine I am highlighting three of my spring themed articles.

In this Globe column I explain why walking daily is important, and how you can easily incorporate movement into your day.

Spring is traditionally a time for change and growth. In my Huffington Post blog I discuss how changing my fitness routine re-invigorated my health resolve. I hope my experiences will inspire you to vary up your fitness routine – maybe your workouts need a spring cleaning!

The changing seasons often inspire people to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Since the process can be overwhelming, in this Globe column I answer the very important question “If I could change one thing about my health what should it be?”

Workout of the Month

Fartlek Intervals
Fartlek intervals are unstructured intervals. I love them because they provide an excellent interval workout, but you don’t have to constantly look at your watch. You can do them walking, running, biking, roller blading or even swimming.

Start by warming up for ten minutes. Then, sprint towards a random landmark. Any landmark will do, try a stop sign or crosswalk. If you are swimming, sprint to the end of the pool or pick a number of strokes to sprint for. Once you hit your landmark slow down and recover. Repeat for ten to thirty minutes. Finish with a cool down and then stretch.

Tip of the Month

Don’t Keep Crap in the House
Sure, at the grocery store you can tell yourself that you will be disciplined, but at 11pm at night you won’t always have the same resolve. Don’t tempt yourself. If you want a treat go out and have a small portion at a restaurant or at a friend’s house.
