newsletterThe August Newsletter is available! Check it out for The V Sit (exercise of the month) and a tasty recipe for Almond Sunflower Seed Burgers!

Happy August everyone! Yes, summer is (unfortunately) coming to an end, but don’t give up on the nice weather just yet! Soak up the last of the sun by strength training and walking outside.

Incorporate walking into your daily life by using a pedometer to track your daily steps. Progressively work up to taking 10 000 steps per day. Curious if a pedometer is for you? Take a look

Curious how exactly you can seamlessly work 10 000 steps into your daily life? Take a look

For simple workouts you can do anywhere – including the local park – watch one of my most recent Globe and Mail ‘Fitness Basic’ videos:

The exercise of the month is ‘V sits’. I love this exercise because you can do it anywhere – at the gym, in front of the TV or even on a park bench.

The recipe of the month was generously included by nutritionist Tara Postnikoff. Thanks Tara!

Exercise of the Month

V Sit

Start seated with you back straight and chest out. Keep this alignment as you hinge at your hips to lean backwards about fifteen degrees. Don’t let your back round, or your head go forward. Use your core to keep you stable.

Hold this for ten to thirty seconds. Once this is easy, challenge yourself by moving your arms like you are doing the backstroke. As you move your arms, try to keep your lower back and pelvis stable.
